Advocates representing homeowners facing foreclosure in Brooklyn argued in a letter to Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence Marks on Wednesday that a series of hearings scheduled by a top judge in the borough “plainly violate” New York’s current COVID-19 foreclosure moratorium.

The attorneys from Brooklyn Legal Services and several other organizations say that Justice Lawrence Knipel, administrative judge for civil matters in Kings County, has informed homeowners they must attend in-person “foreclosure conferences” starting Oct. 25.
