A veteran New York lawyer who is accused of taking out more than $60,000 in attorney trust account funds in 70 separate withdraws, and at one point taking its balance down to $3.78, has been suspended from practicing law despite his claimed lack of experience and training handling such trust accounts, according to a decision suspending him.

Derek Etheridge has been suspended pending further order of the Appellate Division, First Department court, as his ethics matter, in which it‘s been alleged he used escrow-account funds to pay for personal expenses, continues before a state attorney grievance committee, according to the decision.
