After prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York raised concerns about a legal fees agreement apparently between former president Donald Trump’s inaugural committee chairman Thomas Barrack and his co-defendant and former employee Matthew Grimes, U.S. District Judge Brian Cogan of the Eastern District of New York on Wednesday agreed that a Curcio hearing should be held to assess potential conflicts.

Prosecutors raised the issue in a letter on Dec. 23, noting that Barrack and Grimes apparently entered into the written fee agreement, which involves a commitment by Barrack to advance Grimes’ legal fees, after they were arrested in July.
