New York City Mayor Eric Adams has nominated Jocelyn Strauber as his commissioner of investigation. He also appointed as his Chief Counsel Brendan McGuire, the former chief of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District’s Public Corruption Unit, as his chief counsel.

These appointments signal the level of seriousness that the mayor places on government accountability and public integrity. While most people understand the multi-functional role in City Hall played by the Mayor’s Chief Counsel, the breadth of the Commissioner of Investigation’s role is not always well understood.
