The New York Times Company sued the U.S. Department of State Monday in New York Southern District Court under the Freedom of Information Act. The lawsuit, filed by attorney David Edward McCraw, seeks copies of correspondence sent or received between Aug. 2015 and Dec. 2019 by a specific list of U.S. Embassy officials in the United States Embassy in Romania.

Court documents state that the Times requested emails containing keywords that include former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Hunter Biden and former FBI Director Louis Freeh. POLITICO reports that Freeh’s company, the Freeh Group, hired Giuliani to work on matters related to Romania.
