Citing falling numbers of positive COVID-19 test results, Chief Judge Janet DiFiore of the New York Court of Appeals announced on Monday that the court system has slashed social distancing requirements in half for criminal jury trials across the state to three feet.
DiFiore said in her weekly address that in many of New York’s criminal court buildings, 6-foot distancing has often required the use of multiple courtrooms for just a single criminal jury trial, which has limited the number of trials they’ve been able to hold.
