The New York State Bar Association is urging the state legislature to pass bills requiring COVID-19 vaccinations for all employees to the fullest extent possible under the law, mandate people wear masks "as necessary to protect New York's vulnerable populations," and strengthen the state's public health law so the state has increased "capacity" for responding to public health emergencies.

The bar association is also asking the U.S. Congress to create a national registry that would track police officers with disciplinary problems so that, like with an offender registry, they could be stopped from gaining employment at new police departments, to pass legislation banning chokehold use and no-knock warrants by officers, and to reform qualified immunity such that officers can be held liable for "reckless" conduct rather than only deliberate conduct.
