The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit Tuesday in New York Eastern District Court accusing Joseph Orazio DeGregorio of defrauding elderly investors of $1.2 million.

The complaint contends that the defendant promised investors a 13% annual return on nonexistent promissory notes, and claimed to be investing funds in two sham companies. Attorneys have not yet appeared for the defendants.
