The Appellate Division, Third Department ruled Thursday to disbar a former Greene County public defender who pleaded guilty to beating his girlfriend so badly that she suffered brain damage.

Anthony Pastel’s disbarment is retroactive to his Jan. 18 guilty plea to second-degree felony assault. Prior to taking the plea, the 38-year-old ex-defender faced charges of attempted murder and child endangerment.
