As crime rises across New York City, elected officials with campaign platforms centered on being “tough on crime” are once again scapegoating bail reform.

Some are capitalizing on recent incidents to renew calls to roll back bail reform and allow judges to make a capricious determination of dangerousness when setting bail to keep “criminals” off the street. These calls, however, are misguided.
