The New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA) is giving retired New York Knicks star Charles Oakley an assist in his legal battle with Madison Square Garden and team owner James Dolan, arguing that there should have been discovery before a judge dismissed Oakley’s assault and battery claims.

In an amicus brief filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the group argues that District Judge Richard Sullivan crafted his November 2021 ruling around his “selective use and interpretation” of footage taken from Oakley’s forcible ejection from a Feb. 8, 2017 Knicks home game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
