Defendant Joseph Canzoneri owns Advanced Podiatrics Association, for which relator podiatrist Vito formerly worked.
Under a July 2018 agreement they shared hospital privileges at United Memorial Medical Center, where Vito, a podiatrist, performed surgeries. Vito’s qui tam action under the False Claims Act and New York False Claims Act alleged defendants schemed to solicit payment from him and re-used single-use medications obtained from UMMC.
