Former New York Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin was indicted on federal corruption and bribery charges Tuesday, and Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office said he had submitted his resignation from the state’s second-highest-ranking public office.

Benjamin surrendered to law enforcement Tuesday morning, said U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, the top federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York, at a news conference. Benjamin pleaded not guilty at an appearance before a magistrate judge later in the afternoon.
