Former New York Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin’s defense of government corruption and bribery charges could last one or two years, federal criminal defense lawyers told the New York Law Journal in the wake of the announcement of his indictment on Tuesday.

The criminal case—and Benjamin’s resignation on Tuesday—creates a knotty political problem since he remains on the June 28 primary ballot as a candidate for lieutenant governor.
