Pandemic-related backlogs in the state court system have been particularly hard on New York City immigrants in need of legal services, immigration lawyers said during a recent virtual roundtable discussion.

Ukrainian refugees’ expected convergence on the city may stand to add to the concern, as they will be in need of Temporary Protected Status applications and remote defenses, Joy Ziegeweid, supervising immigration attorney at the Urban Justice Center, said during Wednesday’s briefing.
