New York City's top lawyer has filed a complaint against a group of developers and contractors with projects underway next to a Queens firehouse that her office claims has been damaged so extensively by construction work on the neighboring sites that emergency vehicles can't park inside. In papers filed last week in Queens Supreme Court, the city's Law Department claims that repairing the damage to the firehouse in the Elmhurst section of Queens that is home for Fire Department of New York Engine 287, Ladder 136 and Battalion 46 will cost more than $23.5 million. "Taxpayers should not have to bear the burden for defendants' negligence and violations of law," Corporation Counsel Sylvia Hinds-Radix said in a news release. "We are determined to hold these owners and their contractors responsible. They should pay for the costs the city has incurred to address the dangerous conditions and get this firehouse fully repaired." Hinds-Radix's office said damage to the firehouse was caused by allegedly negligent excavation and foundation construction at two adjacent sites on Queens Boulevard. The ladders and battalion stationed at the firehouse, which according to court papers responded to 10,500 emergency calls in 2021, must now park vehicles in the street and have had to build makeshift structures to protect them, the city claims.  The suit names several entities as defendants: 133-24 Realty Inc., 86-55 Grand Realty Inc., Master Works Contractor Inc.,Yan Architect & Planner PLLC and All State 12 General Contracting.  All State 12 did not respond to a request for comment sent to an email address on the company's website. The other entities, which according to state business records are based in various parts of Brooklyn and Queens, could not be reached for comment.
