A reform group is saying New York, the nation's media capital, should cease to be an "extreme outlier" and open its courtrooms to audiovisual media coverage.

Nearly every state in the country currently allows cameras to cover trial court proceedings. In the interest of transparency, New York should follow suit, the Fund for Modern Courts, an independent, statewide court reform organization, said Tuesday.

The group on Tuesday unveiled a 32-page report, prompted by a pair of recent "cameras in the courts" bills proposed by State Sen. Brad Hoylman, D-Manhattan, who chairs the Judiciary Committee, and Assemblyman David Weprin, D-Queens.
