Philanthropist and businesswoman Melinda French Gates' investment and incubation company, Pivotal Ventures, hired Jillian Diamant as its first-ever general counsel.

Diamant joins Seattle, Washington-based Pivotal from the Ford Foundation, where she served as deputy GC for more than three years. Gates, best known for co-founding the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has said she created Pivotal in 2015 to advance social progress for women and families in the U.S.

Diamant was not immediately available for comment.

Before the Ford Foundation, Diamant served in various legal roles at billionaire businessman and philanthropist George Soros' grant-making network, Open Society Foundations.

Earlier in her career, Diamant worked in private practice at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler.
