Richard D. Simons, a full, 14-term New York Court of Appeals judge in the 1980s and ’90s who served as acting chief judge upon the resignation and subsequent conviction of Sol Wachtler, died. He was 95.

In a statement on behalf of judges and professional staff of the Court of Appeals, Chief Judge Janet DiFiore expressed condolences to Simons’ family and remembered him as a judge and man “of extraordinary wisdom, honor and kindness.”
