Assigned counsel attorneys expressed relief and elation on Tuesday about a Manhattan trial court judge’s decision to more than double the pay for 18-B attorneys in New York City.

Queens attorney Sarah Tirgary, president of the Assigned Counsel Association of New York State, and Rochester lawyer Cara Waldman described “drowning” in their respective caseloads amid an exodus of 18-B lawyers.
