Chief Judge Janet DiFiore on Thursday sent a letter formally announcing her resignation, effective Aug. 31, to Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence Marks and Chief Clerk Lisa LeCours of the New York Court of Appeals.

The letter formalizes the resignation announcement made by DiFiore on July 11, in which she said she wanted to pursue the “next chapter” of her career after more than six years leading the state’s court system.
