A New York City immigration lawyer was sentenced to between one and three years in a state prison for defrauding undocumented immigrants out of thousands of dollars in legal fees while suspended from practicing law.

Carlos Moreno of the Moreno Law Office, who has been under suspension since September 2017, pleaded guilty in New York Supreme Court to a felony scheme to defraud in the first degree and practicing law while suspended, a misdemeanor.
