The U.S. government has filed an amicus curiae brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in an action initiated by New York that seeks to prevent New Jersey’s withdrawal from the Waterfront Commission Compact.

“I am thrilled that the United States has filed a brief in the U.S. Supreme Court agreeing that New Jersey has the right to withdraw from the Waterfront Commission and that New York’s lawsuit should be rejected,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement issued Monday. Despite the ongoing battle to withdraw from the commission, Murphy recently nominated Jennifer Davenport, currently the senior director of compliance for Public Service Enterprise Group and a former high-ranking prosecutor, to be New Jersey’s representative on the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor.
