U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman of the Southern District of New York has ruled in favor of a Manhattan building owner after its tenant, the clothing retailer Free People, stopped paying rent during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furman granted the motion for summary judgment filed by the plaintiff, a subsidiary of Delshah Capital, on Aug. 17, and he referred the case to U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah Cave for an inquest on damages.
