The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York on Thursday announced that Russian billionaire Oleg Vladimirovich Deripaska has been charged with violating U.S. sanctions by allegedly maintaining properties in the United States.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said the indictment of Deripaska, who has been linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin, is the latest step in the United States’ response to “Russia’s unjust and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.”
