On Oct. 3, the Office of the Appellate Defender will host its 29th annual “First Monday in October” fundraiser gala and mock supreme court argument.

James J. Benjamin, Jr., a partner at Akin Gump, and Anthony Ricco, a past president of the New York Criminal Bar Association, will each receive the Milton S. Gould Award for outstanding oral advocacy. They will argue “Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College,” which asks whether race sensitive admission practices in higher education institutions violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
