Gov. Kathy Hochul should choose from three of the four female candidates for chief judge of New York, while bypassing a trio of male judges on the shortlist, a progressive-leaning coalition said on Thursday.

In a 26-page advisory, The Court New York Deserves coalition, which is composed of more than 145 advocacy groups campaigning for New York’s next chief judge to be more sympathetic to vulnerable populations, urged the appointment of either Corey Stoughton, attorney-in-charge of special litigation for the Legal Aid Society; Judge Edwina Richardson-Mendelson, or Yale Law School professor Abbe Gluck.
