An eight-figure jury award for a state court officer who was crushed by a 400-pound courthouse door and rendered disabled was deemed a "bizarre result" to the six-year-old personal injury battle by the recently-elected Nassau County executive.

Following a trial held over a four-week period in November, a jury of three women and three men handed up a $20.5 million award for court officer Michael Williams, who suffered nerve and spinal cord injuries in January 2016 when a poorly-secured exterior side door at the Nassau County Criminal Courthouse in Mineola slammed shut on him.
