Joseb Gim’s interest in law enforcement began after his father was shot in front of him and his family while Gim was growing up in Baltimore.

During his father’s hospitalization, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, the same person who had orchestrated the shooting paid someone to burn down the family’s store. The police interrupted the attempted arson, but the experience stayed with him.
