Prosecutors have said this is the first time charges have been brought in an insider trading tipping scheme involving cryptocurrency.

CryptocurrencyFederal prosecutors on Wednesday recommended that Nikhil Wahi, the brother of a former employee at the cryptocurrency platform Coinbase who has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, be sentenced to 10 to 16 months in prison while his brother's case proceeds.
