Amid a discussion about how to balance a client’s requests with attorneys’ obligation to follow the rules of their practice, a panel of attorneys and judges on Wednesday addressed the case of Steve Bannon, whose attorneys asked a Manhattan judge last week to relieve them as counsel.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan rejected the request from the lawyers, who said they were facing a breakdown in communication with Bannon and irreconcilable differences, months after they were retained to represent Bannon in a money laundering and fraud case related to the nonprofit We Build the Wall Inc.
