A Republican lawmaker on Monday moved for a “point of order” to advance Justice Hector LaSalle’s embattled nomination for chief judge of New York to the Senate floor for a confirmation vote. But the majority of the body ruled him out of order.

State Sen. Andrew Lanza, R-Staten Island, made the motion, asking Sen. Jamaal Bailey, D-Bronx, for a report of Wednesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that declined to advance LaSalle’s nomination, by a 10-9 margin.
