The Democrat-controlled legislature has made the institution of an equality amendment a renewed priority after the U.S. Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization struck down women's federal right to abortion.

LegislationMoving to further guard a women's right to choose in New York State, as well as enshrine in the state constitution protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, national origin and other factors, the state legislature has passed an Equal Rights Amendment for a second time.
