As reported here last week, developer Soloviev Group is looking at the long-vacant, 9-acre lot adjacent to the United Nations in Midtown East as a potential site for Manhattan's first casino.

In addition to a 1,200-room hotel on the site, Soloviev has said that it is also considering plans for it to play host to a huge Ferris wheel, The New York Times reports. Opposition to a casino at the site from the local community board notwithstanding, the Ferris wheel idea may remind some of an ill-fated proposal to bring one to Staten Island that resulted in a bunch of lawsuits.
