A recent law change that allows a notary public in New York to handle a transaction for a principal who’s in a remote location, anywhere in the world, comes with headaches for attorneys, the head of the state bar said Thursday.

Executive Law Section 135-c, which went into effect on Jan. 31, contains new rules for electronic notarial acts that are “burdensome” and stand to negatively impact lawyers involved in handling real estate transactions, wills, trusts and other legal matters that require signing documents, New York State Bar Association President Sherry Levin Wallach said.
