A legislative bill known as Kyra's Law aims to create Family Court Act §654, meaning a New York judge could enter a temporary emergency order on behalf of a child based solely on an allegation by one parent against another.

Such loose parameters have prompted two attorneys to break from what appears to be a growing consensus in support of the bill, S3170A/A3346A, which has generated bipartisan support in its hopes of changing the way New York courts handle child custody and parental visitation decisions.
