Those of us who scribble for publication when not practicing law always hope people will read what we write.

But, alas, writers, particularly occasional opinion writers for a daily professional newspaper, can rarely predict with accuracy which of their efforts, if any, will catch on. Readers’ tastes are hard to fathom. Who knows what piece of writing will be read after the day it is published, if it is read even then?
