Reacting to two New York appeals court decisions that conflicted about a city housing authority’s liability in targeted killings involving buildings with broken exterior door locks, the state’s highest court signed off on advancing both cases to jury trials on Tuesday.

The paired, 6-0 decisions were written by Court of Appeals Chief Judge Rowan Wilson, with newly arrived Associate Judge Caitlin Halligan not taking part in either decision.
