Lawyers argued over New York Congressional redistricting Thursday, with Appellate Division, Third Department Presiding Justice Elizabeth Garry saying the court was placed in “the awkward position of inferring” what a 2022 Court of Appeals decision meant by its silence on the duration of a remedial plan.

The case before the five appellate judges is captioned Hoffman v. New York State Independent Redistricting Commission, and it comes on the heels of the state’s highest court’s 4-3 ruling in Harkenrider v. Hochul, in April 2022.
