Defendant Medghyne Calonge was hired as a Florida-based human resources manager for 1-800-Accountant, a virtual accounting firm. She was supervised by Manhattan-based Amy Gaspari.

In June 2019 Colange improperly locked an employee out of human resources software, preventing that colleague from doing his job, prompting her firing on June 28. Upon termination, Colange's access to the JazzHR database had not been revoked. Two days later nearly all the information in that database was deleted. Colange was convicted on two counts of violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
