New arrivals to a midlevel appellate court spanning a 28-county swath of New York that includes the state’s Capital Region,  Justices L. Michael Mackey and Mark L. Powers were sworn in by Third Department Presiding Justice Elizabeth A. Garry on Wednesday at the Robert Abrams Building for Law and Justice in Albany.

Gov. Kathy Hochul tapped Mackey and Powers from their respective roles as state trial court judges, with Mackey and Powers among the 10 gubernatorial appointments to the four appellate divisions across New York in late June.
