A downstate New York trial court judge said the town of Ramapo properly abolished a third town justice seat, meaning a Republican lawyer cannot run for it in the November election as he had hoped.

Ramapo Republicans nominated estate and bankruptcy lawyer Michael Koplen to occupy a position that Democrats on the Ramapo town board abolished after former Town Justice David Fried resigned in June to fill a judgeship on the Court of Claims.
