What are some of your proudest recent achievements? Earlier this year, my team and I won an exceedingly rare victory for our client, Conduent State Healthcare, in a dispute that stretches back a decade. In that dispute, we sought coverage from AIG and other insurers for a $236 million Medicaid fraud settlement. A jury had ruled in favor of AIG, but in February we earned a decision overturning that verdict. This was the first jury verdict that the judge had overturned in her more than 20 years on the bench, making the ruling a truly special and gratifying result for our client.

This win came on the heels of another victory that my team and I secured, in a case of first impression addressing coverage for a special purpose acquisition company, or “SPAC.” The Superior Court of Delaware ruled in favor of our client Clover Health, a company that resulted from a merger between a SPAC and a private health insurance company, holding that the SPAC’s D&O insurers must pay defense costs not only for the SPAC itself, but also its future officers and directors.
