Responses prepared by David Lender, global co-chair of Weil, Gotshal & Manges' litigation department.

What are some of the department's most satisfying successes of the past year and why? Weil delivered another banner year for our clients in the class action space. We won a significant victory for a longtime technology sector client before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in a consumer class action that clarifies when a product manufacturer must disclose a product defect, which drew extensive industry interest and amici support. We extracted an early motion to dismiss exit for a publishing client in a set of two industry-wide antitrust class actions involving e- and print books. We padded our track record for a food industry client in defeating a third and fourth stockholder lawsuit arising from its involvement in an alleged price fixing conspiracy in the poultry market. And we won big for a private equity client for the second consecutive time in a stockholder fiduciary duty class action arising from major transactions. All of these matters involved significant reputational and financial stakes.
