Complaints filed under the Adult Survivors Act surged in the final days of eligibility, with the total number of actions filed statewide during the lookback window totaling 1,549 lawsuits on behalf of 2,059 plaintiffs in New York State Supreme Courts.

387 lawsuits—or 24.9% total state supreme court actions—were filed across the state in the last four days of the ASA’s lookback period, according to data from the New York State Unified Court System. The ASA allowed plaintiffs who suffered abuse as adults to sue over otherwise time-barred claims between Nov. 24, 2022, and Nov. 23, 2023.
