A lawmaker from Western New York has filed a bill that would have the state’s largest bar association set ethics guidelines for district attorneys, rather than the state’s primary association for DAs setting its own standards.

“District Attorneys, like all other public officials, must be held accountable and should be expected to follow certain ethical guidelines,” went the justification message for A8293, which was filed on Nov. 27 by state Assemblyman Patrick Burke, D-West Seneca, a suburb of Buffalo.
