The New York County Lawyers Association was pleased to see that New York State’s Commission on Legislative, Judicial and Executive Compensation voted unanimously last week to recommend a 10.3% salary increase for the judiciary. The increase is effective April 1, 2024 (the start of the state’s next fiscal year) and takes effect automatically unless the state legislature passes a bill to reject the commission’s recommendation.

This is the first raise our state’s judges and justices have received since 2019, during a period of significant inflation. We testified in favor of such an increase on Oct. 13 at a hearing before the commission.
