New York saw a huge uptick in its investigation of threats to the judiciary during 2023, a spokesman for the state court system said.

“The Judicial Threats Assessment Unit of the Unified Court System’s Department of Public Safety investigated a combined total of 485 judicial threats, inappropriate communications, and other incidents in calendar 2023, a 66% increase compared with the combined total of 292 such investigations in the prior year,” court system spokesman Alfred Baker said in response to an inquiry from the Law Journal.
