New York’s judicial misconduct watchdog on Friday said that a former upstate town justice who lost in his campaign for re-election tried to enrich himself with court funds.

In a 10-0 vote, the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct recommended that E. Timothy Mercer, a former justice of Athens Town Court in Greene County, be removed from office for trying to enrich himself with court funds.
