Stephen Louis, a New York City municipal attorney who has served under five mayors in his nearly four-decade tenure, has been appointed as counsel to the Center for New York City Law at New York Law School and a distinguished fellow in state and local government law at the school.

Louis, who has been a member of New York Law School’s adjunct faculty since 2013, retired from New York City’s Law Department in November after a long career that included a 26-year stint as chief of the office’s Legal Counsel Division, an analog to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel. He most recently served as executive assistant corporation counsel for legal counsel.
